He Is Not Here; He Has Risen, Just As He Said.

The sun was rising as a group of women made their way up the hill to the tomb where the body of Jesus had been laid. They had spices to anoint His body. These women fully expected to find the body of Jesus in the tomb.

As they got closer to the tomb, they wondered who would roll away the heavy stone. To their surprise, the stone was rolled away.

Luke 24: 4-7 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing;  and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead?  He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

There is more to this story and you will find it here, Luke 24:1-53, Mark 16:1-20, Matthew 28:1-20, John 20:1-31 .

As you read these passages, there are some important lessons.

He Is Not Here; He Has Risen, Just As He Said.

They were urged to believe.

The angel reminded the women that Jesus said He would rise again. The empty tomb was proof! His very word is a promise to believe.

They were urged to share.

“Go, tell!” is what the women did when they remembered the words of Jesus. They ran to the disciples to tell them the tomb was empty.

Later, the disciples are given the Great Commission to proclaim the name of Jesus throughout the world.

They were urged to rejoice.

As Jesus revealed Himself to the disciples and to others, each is left with great joy and a desire to praise the Lord.

The foundation of the Christian faith is found in the resurrection of Jesus.

Sunday, April 1, is Resurrection Sunday. We at the River Church would like to invite you to join us for worship as we celebrate the risen Savior. Our service on Sunday begins at 6:00am.

After the service, we will gather for fellowship and a potluck breakfast.
