Feeding the Homeless and Underemployed – Picnic in the Park

One of the ministries here at the River is Picnic in the Park. On the first Friday of every month you will find people from the River church at Riverfront Park 1284 E. Riverfront Drive off of North 10th Street feeding and ministering to the homeless of Cottonwood AZ.

A hot meal with all the fixings is served up to 60-70 people with a smile. But not only do we still the stomachs with food, we are there with a kind word and a listening ear.

You can help too!

There’s so many things that are needed by the homeless and the poor. Personal items such as soap, deodorant, sanitary pads and tampons, shampoo and conditioner, white cotton socks, toilet paper, toothbrush and toothpaste, and a washcloth and hand towel set are needed. These are everyday items that are so appreciated as someone who doesn’t have much.

Maybe you have a sleeping bag, or a blanket, or a tarp, or tent that you are no longer in need of. You can donate those items as well.

You know those plastic shopping bags that just seem to multiply? Well, you can bring those to the church. The bags cut down and crocheted into a sleeping mat. Not only are you recycling, you are providing a much-needed, comfortable mat to sleep on.

Deuteronomy 15:11 For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

Sharing the message and love of Jesus is the goal. Please pray for this wonderful ministry and the people involved.

Better yet! Join us on Friday, July 6th.
